Overcoming Stage Fright. Tips for the Anxious Bride or Groom

How to Enjoy Your Big Day Without the Stress 💐
If you have social anxiety, fear of public speaking, or are simply very shy, you may dread the idea of a wedding with all eyes on you – even if you’re excited to marry your beloved. The obvious solution would be to elope or have a very small guest list with only your closest friends and family present. However, that’s not always a practical solution.
Luckily, there are other ways to help prevent feelings of stage fright on your wedding day. Remember that the day is ultimately about celebrating the love between you and your partner, and with the right strategies in place, you can cherish every moment of it.
Here’s how:
• One of the best ways to overcome anxiety is through preparation. Practice, practice, practice what you’ll say while walking the dog or sipping coffee. You’re not memorising lines; you’re telling your story—which means it should feel casual, even conversational, when spoken aloud.
• Replace “all eyes are on me” with “all eyes are here to celebrate us.” Visualise yourself sharing a private moment with your partner; everyone else is just lucky to be witnessing it.
• Focus on connection rather than performance.
• A personal touch—a hand-hold during tough parts or a knowing glance at your partner—can ground you in the moment.
• Remember that legal Vows are included your ceremony, and will be read by me, your celebrant, with you responding “I do” at the appropriate time. Personal vows are not a legal requirement. However, I always encourage my couples to write personal vows, and if you don’t feel like sharing them during the ceremony, you can share them on your wedding night, honeymoon, 1st wedding anniversary or pop them in a time capsule for a later date.
Ceremony nerves are normal—but they don’t stand a chance against thoughtful preparation tailored just for YOU. 🌟
What part of being in front of guests makes YOU most anxious?
