The unity candle ceremony is one of the most popular unity ceremonies. The ceremony involves the bride and groom lighting a single candle together using two individual candles, symbolising the merging of two lives into one. This ceremony is often performed after the exchange of rings.
The wording can as following:
I would like to invite e.g. a parent each/child/family member/or, celebrant to come up and light Bride and Groom’s candles. (and sit back down).
Bride and Groom, today you are making a life-long commitment to share the rest of your lives with each other. As you each hold your candle, the separate candle represents your lives to this moment, individual and unique.
The lighting of the centre candle represents that your two lives are now joined to one light, and signifies the joining together of your two families and sets of friends to one
‘May the blessing of light, be with you always. Light without and light within. And may the sun shine upon you and warm your heart until it glows like a great fire so that others may feel the warmth of your love for one another’.
